Reflection
Identify the teaching strategies/ learning experiences that were most effective. Explain Why?
I start my lesson by singing song of sounds, so the students will recognize its literacy time. I reviewed the letters we took. for example, S for Saif, S for Saeeda, M for Mohammed, we don’t have a student start with the letter T, so we put T for tiger. Otherwise students won't mix up the letters. Also, I told the students who is our friend? which letter? I used turn and talk strategy to get them all involved and engage them. When I start losing student’s attention I use this strategy (1,2, folded arms),” Research has demonstrated that engaging students in the learning process increases their attention and focus” ( University of Washington, n.d). Throw these strategies students give me their attention and show me they are interesting.
Before the students move to their center I model for them the activities, half of them I didn’t model it because they already know, and I want to save the time. I gave them clear instruction with simple language. Although I prepared each center with their learning ability. This instructional strategy known as scaffolding were the teacher is charged with providing support until the learner can move through all tasks independently (FOR THE TEACHERS, 2016). I used this strategy because they are KG1, more assistance they can do more.
Identify the teaching strategies/ learning experiences that were least effective. Explain why
Hands-on activity appropriate for them. Like using simple things, because it's first year for them and the school don't have to press the students spicily KG 1. My mentor told me to focus on (print and picture outcome) because the students don’t know the different.
Art center, I focus on visual art because it’s my action research. The students able to print their hands and do turtle after that they write T for turtle. My goal in visual art is integrated it with writing and I did it.
Based on these reflections, outline the steps you should now take to improve your teaching in future lessons.
-
Ensure that each lesson contains an active engagement component so that students engage in higher order thinking skills Implementing.
-
Consistently and utilize summative assessment checklists during your focus groups to monitor student progress levels.
Difficulties I faced.
I planned to model activities on the computer, Like I take a video then show the students how to do their activities on computer, but the video doesn’t work. So I have a problem with the computer.
I still working on my assessment but the don’t get that and I need more time to work on it. Also, in the school we don’t have teachers.
AND I don’t have that time to meet my mentor because I have two classes by my own.
And I shocked when I saw a student teacher with my mentor, it's not fair for me, how can I learn from her if they put a student teacher with her, how can she observe both of us.
