Reflection

Before writing the reflection part of this task I want to summarize shortly my students and classroom. First, the learner profile of my students, I don't have differentiation of the students because I'm still working on diagnostic assessment. I have two classes each class has 26 students. And my pleasure to practice at Al Zaideya school because I learned lots from them and staff are friendly.

On Sunday, September 23, I did numeracy lesson which was about sorting, I did it in Al Zaydeya school in KG1 section 2. The learning outcome was K1MDD1: Sort objects that are found in the environment. My goal is Students understand my instructions to complete the centers independently, I achieved that by using simple language and model the activities. I saw the students completed the assigned task and show me their work while I’m in focus group. So, in that way I know that I achieved my first goal.

I start my lesson by sorting colors on the carpet, I had two colors of cubes (blue, yellow) and I start to make a line by blue cubes and we count them together, then I did another line by yellow cubes, in the end I put yellow cube in the blue line and I asked the students is this the right place for yellow cube they said "no", and I let one student to turn the yellow cube in the right place. And I told the students the reason why I choose Hamda because she raised her hand and she is sitting quietly in that way they will remember the rules and they will copy Hamda in positive way.

The reason why I model the activity because students learn through observing, and they won’t face any challenging while they on task, also the students will work on confident way because they know their work.  According to Bandura “Most human behavior is learned observationally through modeling: from observing others, one forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed, and on later occasions this coded information serves as a guide for action.” (Bandura, 1925)

In the class we have 7 centers math, art, science, computer, reading, writing, focus. I will talk about focus group. I had colorful papers design it like a house and teddy bears. We sort teddy bears by the color and it depend on the house’s color. We count the teddy bears and identify the colors, as well as we used sight words like MY house, I like color blue…,

For formative I did it quickly because they students don’t have that knowledge and I don’t have to leave focus group for long time. But I try to do summative assessment for all students, but I didn’t have a time. For classroom strategies I think I have to do more strategies, so I can get students attention. In general focus group were learning by doing, through that activity their skills will develop, cognitive, collaborative. John Dewey believed the students can learn by doing (Elkan, 2013).

The difficulties that I faced are the students finished early and I didn’t do extra activities enough, and technology, I used to work with the smart board because it makes my work easier, and I don’t know what’s wrong with the computer sometimes it doesn’t work with me till I restart the computer.

In the future, I will do extend activities and I will keep the students busy, and I will develop art center I will integrated with writing, because the school focus on writing and reading.
