Reflection

What were you trying to achieve in your lesson?

  • Describe what you will have the students do during the lesson in order to achieve the LO and link it to theory

What did the students do?

Describe what ACTUALLY happened during the introduction, active engagement, formative assessment and closing

My goal was planning in creative way. I want to contain activity engagement component, in the same time I will engage the students in higher order thinking skills. I achieve my goal by planning with my mentor and asking other teachers to check my ideas, for students I used simple language and ensure to have an activity for engagement students. While the lesson I achieve my goal by planning in creative way and engage the students, as well as the students were on task after that, they share their work.

On the carpet we play a song about routine we sing it with the action, after that I show the students pictures of routine and I told the students about my routine and they were excited. Then I asked them to turn and talk to tell me their routine to get them all involved, at home or in the morning when they finished a ask them to tell me about their routine in front of me and the students. Research has demonstrated that engaging students in the learning process increases their attention and focus” (University of Washington, n.d). Throw these strategies students give me their attention and show me they are interesting. Some of them told me about their routine in Arabic, for example like Mohammed, he told me about his routine in Arabic and tries to say in English and he know the word (sleep). I told him to repeat so we can say it in English with action so the students can understand us, like I brush my teeth we did it with the action.

For modeling centers, I did a video to explain each center for them and show it on the power point, it’s creative way for modeling because it gives me students attention and they can do their task correctly.

Analyze (A):

How well did your teaching relate to the students’ prior understanding?

  • Think about what the students already know about this concept/subject?

  • Describe what you did to tap into the student’s prior knowledge of the concept/subject

As a student teacher, I think routine lesson is easy for students, because it’s like to tell as about their story and nothing new, but the students might have difficulties to tell me in English, so we can do it again with the action and by days they will get it in English. I will talk about focus group, we wear creating a routine hat, first they design the paper by coloring or add guiltier or stickers, secondly, I ask them to do the routine in order, in the same time I was assess the students. After that I post their picture on the top.

My learning philosophy is learning by doing that is connected with Piaget’s Theory of learning. I care about learning through play as that manages children to learn better and even they retain information. Also, John Dewey believed the students can learn by doing (Elkan, 2013).

competency: Planning for learning

In the future I would like to make turn and talk easier for students like using picture so the students will know what they will do, Also I would like to do is while the students are talk on this strategy (turn and talk) I will give them a recorder so they can record their conversation about the topic.
